At least 15 people have died from road accidents in Talisay City, Cebu from January until the first week of July 2026.

This has alarmed Joy Tumulak, chief of the city’s Traffic Operations and Development Authority, because the number is even bigger than the 12 fatalities the previous year.

Based on investigation by the police, the primary causes of the accidents are reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Alarming siya tungod kay sagunson unya subay sa gipahigayon nga mga imbestigasyon sa atong kapulisan, nga ang sagad nga hinungdan sa maong disgrasya, mao ning reckless driving. Ikaduha, mao na ning nakainom,” Tumulak said.

Tumulak has written to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to ask for help - for the possibility of the agency deploying personnel to the streets of Talisay.

“Aron maminusan or mapugngan ang pagsaka aning maong mga casualties pinaagi na sa pag-deploy sa ilang mga personnel dinhi sa atoang area,” he said.

Tumulak said he will also send a report to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) so that the agency can come up with a so-called “black spot investigation” or road safety audit.

This will determine if the roads in the city, especially those where accidents have happened, are problematic.

An audit will check if a road is slippery, if it needs to be widened, or if it needs more light, among others.
