The number of influenza-like illnesses in Western Visayas from January to June 2026 went up by 92 percent compared to the number of cases in the same period in 2025.

The region logged at least 234 cases in the first half of 2026, way more than the 169 cases recorded in the same period the previous year.

Health authorities believe changing weather conditions have contributed to people getting ill.

Because of this, the Department of Health (DOH)-6 urged the public to adopt the following steps to protect one from the disease:

  • Strengthen the immune system by taking vitamins
  • Maintain proper hygiene by washing hands regularly and properly
  • Wear a mask
  • Get vaccinated

DOH said it is best for those who experience flu-like symptoms to seek medical help immediately.

It is also better to avoid crowded places so as not to contract the disease.
