A 49-year-old tricycle driver was arrested for allegedly transporting a sack containing firearms following a shooting in General Santos City morning on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Police said they pursued the man, allegedly one of those who fled the scene of the shooting that left a security guard dead.
They cornered the man at a compound in Barangay Labangal and reportedly found a sack containing at least nine high-powered firearms in his tricycle.
“After shooting, after putukan, malapit lang man yung naka-deploy na tropa, PNP Personnel nagkaroon agad ng hot pursuit operation, and then naabutan at pinaputukan pa sila ng mga kasamahan,” General Santos City Police Office Director, Col. Eric De Venancio, said.
But the man denied any involvement in the shooting and said someone had asked him to transport the sack. He also reportedly did not know it contained firearms.
“Hindi ko nakita. Hindi ko karga yun,” the tricycle driver said.
The driver’s children, who witnessed the arrest, also insisted that their father is innocent.
“Gikan mi og balay. Ingon siya mamalit lang sud-an. Natingala mi gipusil daw siya,” a child of the man said.
The firearms and the suspect are now under police custody.
Meanwhile, police are still pursuing other suspects in the shooting, as of this writing.
Investigators are eyeing land dispute as motive.
