A 36-year-old fire officer was killed while another was injured after motorcycle-riding gunmen fired at their pickup truck in Calanogas, Lanao del Sur evening on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

In a video captured by a netizen, a man wearing a Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) uniform can be seen bleeding inside a vehicle.

Authorities said the man was among the four personnel of Malabang town fire station on board the pickup truck that was fired upon by riding-in-tandem suspects in Barangay Bubongaranao.

The fire inspector and another female firefighter were unharmed in the attack.

Investigators are looking into mistaken identity and rido or family feud as possible motives.

“Pwdeng mistaken (identity) because accordingly yung sasakyan bago lang hiniram pa nila baka yun yung target or possibly itong rido sa Malabang area,” Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Director, Col. Ceazar Cabuhat, said.

Authorities have identified two persons of interest who may have a hand in the incident.

“We have two POI’s hindi muna natin masabi kung sino but hopefully the investigation will give us information based doon sa kagabi at sa mga tao,” Cabuhat added.
