The local government of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental has announced that several roads in six barangays remain impassable, as of this writing, due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Raging waters cascaded down from the mountains onto a road in Barangay Malalan amid heavy rains, leaving several motorists stranded.

The road was no longer visible due to rocks and soil carried by floodwaters.

Personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-11) were also unable to pass through while on their way to deliver assistance to survivors of the recent flooding at the district hospital.

As of morning on Tuesday, they were still unable to pass and remained stranded at the boundary of Barangays Tabayon and Cayaponga.

A truck of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) carrying a backhoe supposedly for clearing operations also figured in an accident.

The truck’s tires reportedly sank into the soft ground, causing it to lose balance and tilt to its side.

"Naa’y daot nga dalan diri, nabangag ang karsada, unya nipadaplin siya diri, unya sagunson man ang ulan sa atoang munisipyo, mohumok gyud ang yuta,” Vice Mayor James John Joyce said.

The local government has issued an advisory that several roads remain impassable due to landslides, including areas along the boundary of Barangays Kalbay and Butuan, Sitio Lawis and Sitio Proper in Barangay Tabayon, Barangay Tanuman, Sitio Kituling and Sitio Kisombol in Barangay Cayaponga, and Sitio Kibatang in Barangay Sugal.

The local government also imposed a mandatory or forced evacuation for all residents of Sitio Kibatang, including those living along the river and in other areas at risk of landslides and flooding due to continuous rains.
