Policemen and members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) helped secure San Jose National High School in Tacloban City when it returned to face-to-face classes on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The school was forced to revert to online classes for a day on July 14 when it received another security threat.
The threat, which a student forwarded to a teacher, reportedly targeted Grade 7 and 8 students of the school.
Dr. Nilo Eder, information officer of the Department of Education Tacloban City Division, said they are tracing the source of the threat.
“Vine-verify pa, inaano pa, ‘yung identity kung sino ‘yung nag-post na ‘yun kasi dummy account lang ‘yun… kasi na-distract na masyado ‘yung face-to-face classes namin,” he said.
The most recent threat against the school came weeks after that fateful day on June 22, the first day of classes for the new school year, when three of its students died and several others were injured during a shooting inside the school.
The two suspects were its students, both minors.
Following that incident, the school moved its classes online for two weeks and returned to face-to-face sessions on July 6.
Due to fear and uncertainty, several students of the school considered transferring to other schools. Read story: https://www.gmanetwork.com/regionaltv/news/114595/several-want-to-transfer-schools-following-tacloban-shooting/story/
After the shooting at San Jose National High School, security threats, posted mostly online, against other schools in the country surfaced, including in Cebu, Negros, and other parts of Leyte.
