Authorities have subjected the cadaver recovered from a river in Malidegao, Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (SGA-BARMM), to DNA testing to determine whether it is that of missing Bukidnon hiker Alkhraj Zamayla.

The Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) confirmed that a DNA cross-matching examination has been conducted on the DNA sample of Zamayla’s sibling and the cadaver recovered from the Pulangi River in Sitio Minanga, Barangay Nabundas, Malidegao on July 14, 2026.

The examination was carried out at the request of the Zamayla family to determine whether the remains belong to the hiker who went missing on Mt. Kalatungan on June 12, 2026.

However, Zamayla's family noted several features of the recovered body that they believe do not match Alkhraj such as the body's height and the shirt it was wearing.

The recovered body was also found wearing an accessory, which the family said Alkhraj did not wear.

Police are now awaiting the results of the DNA test to confirm whether the body recovered from the Pulangi River is that of Zamayla.

“Among gihangyo ang publiko nga magpadsayon sa paghatag ug kasaligan nga impormasyon ang pamilya ni Zamayla nagtanyag ug 100 thousand nga reward alang sa bisan kinsa nga makahatag ug impormasyon nga makatabang,” PRO-10 Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
