At least 14 families were displaced after a big part of the Davao-Bukidnon Road collapsed evening on Friday, July 17, 2026.

The so-called “road slip” affected several houses in Sitio Marahan, Barangay Marilog Proper, Davao City.

Among the houses affected is the house of Shirley Bulod who said they could not save any of their belongings. Someone reportedly urged them to evacuate immediately because the ground on which their house stood was about to collapse.

“Nigawas mi, Sir, kay kabalo mi nga (naguba) na among payag. Naay nag-signal. Naay nag-istorya sa amo nga hawa na mo diha kay mahugmak na. Naghawa pud mi dayon,” Bulod said.

The house of Vivien Canubas' child also fell. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

“Mga alas kwatro (ng hapon), napansin na ng lahat na bumaba na yung lupa, tapos tuloy tuloy pa rin ang mga sasakyan na malalaki tapos napansin nila na bumaba, tsaka sila naghakot tapos yung amin, hindi namin nahakot kasi sarado. Mga bandang alas siyete, tumunog lahat tapos ang mga bahay unti unti nang bumababa,” Canubas said.

According to the barangay captain, they immediately responded after receiving reports that the ground in the area was giving way gradually.

“Nakita nila nga delikado na, gipabakwit na ang mga tao. Mga 7:20 p.m. yata to, didto na nahitabo nga nahulog na gyud siya, nagdaganay mi kay ang poste natumba. Naa tay pasyente naigo sa wire, nalabtikan pagkahulog sa balay, pagkatumba sa poste,” Barangay Marilog Proper Chairwoman Jeanette Swam said.

One of the residents injured is now in stable condition.

Data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) showed at least 14 families were affected. Five houses collapsed while residents of six other houses on the opposite side of the road were evacuated forcibly as precaution.

Some of the families displaced are staying with relatives while others housed temporarily in a shelter managed by CSWDO.

“Initially, naghatag ta og food assistance sa ilaha kay samtang naa sila diri karon sa atoang temporary shelter,” CSWDO Social Welfare Officer III, Faith Torres, said.

The residents affected are appealing for assistance.

“Nangayo mi’g tabang nga parehas ana among mga gamit… kaldero,” Bulod said.

“Sana may relocation kasi lalo na yung sa anak ko. Saan kami. Di naman pwedeng dito kami. Sana may relocation kahit lupa lang,” Canubas added.

The barangay is set to hold a session to discuss the appropriate actions that need to be taken.

AREA AFFECTED

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways–Davao (DPWH-11), the part of the road that collapsed extends to around 150 meters.

“Nag-collapse siya dahil sa combination ng mga factors like earthquake, mga continuous rain noong mga nakaraang linggo. At pag disturbed din siya, yung mga heavy trucks na dumadaan. Kailangan ng reconstruction talaga ng ating pavement. Kailangan ng slope protection structures,” DPWH-11 2nd District Engineering Office, Engr. Rommel Joffrey Madarang, said.

Only two lanes of the road are passable, as of this writing.

However, DPWH-11 has identified alternative routes for motorists traveling to and from Davao, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro City.

Light vehicles are allowed to pass through the Datu Ladayon–Katipunan–Arakan Road, while all types of vehicles may use the Maramag–Damulog–Carmen–Kidapawan–Digos route.
