A barangay official was arrested after allegedly shooting a truck driver in a case of road rage in Guagua, Pampanga, police said.
The incident left a 28-year-old victim injured.
The shooting happened on Jasa Road near the Golangco traffic light in Barangay San Antonio.
CCTV footage reviewed by police showed a truck and a white pickup traveling toward Bataan moments before the incident. The drivers eventually figured in a road dispute that escalated into a shooting.
Guagua police chief Lt. Col. Jaime Edejer said both vehicles were traveling from Lubao toward Bataan when the suspect allegedly opened fire.
"Nung nag-conduct po kami ng investigation, nalaman po natin na 'yung truck ay may na-encounter po na white pickup na sasakyan kung saan nagkaroon sila ng hindi pagkakaunawaan sa daan. At nung dumating po dito sa bandang Brgy. San Antonio, paglagpas po ng traffic light ng Guagua, bigla na lang po siyang binaril nung nasabing driver ng puting pickup. Pareho po silang heading to Bataan... Lubao moving po sila noong binaril po 'yung truck," he said.
The victim, a 28-year-old truck driver from Barangay San Pedro in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, sustained injuries in the attack.
Police arrested the suspect, who was identified as a barangay official from Lubao, Pampanga, during a hot pursuit operation.
According to Edejer, investigators used backtracking and forward tracking to locate the suspect's vehicle in Barangay Sta. Maria, Guagua.
"Binaril po 'yung truck driver. Nagsagawa po tayo ng backtracking at forward tracking kung saan 'yung backtracking nagresolba po ito sa positive at nakita po natin ang nasabing sasakyan sa Brgy. Sta. Maria, Guagua, Pampanga," he said.
Authorities recovered a licensed 9mm pistol, three magazines, and the suspect's vehicle.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Guagua Municipal Police Station while the investigation continues.
As of posting, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon is seeking statements from both the suspect and the victim.
Police reminded motorists to avoid confrontations on the road and to immediately report incidents of road violence to authorities.
