A motorcyclist was killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a commuter van while crossing a national highway in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, police said.

The crash happened along the national highway in Barangay Gueguesangen.

CCTV footage obtained by the Sta. Barbara Police Station showed the motorcycle emerging from a barangay road and attempting to cross the highway. As it entered the intersection, it collided with a fast-moving commuter van.

The impact threw the rider several meters away and left the motorcycle damaged heavily.

Police chief, Lt. Col. Michael Datuin, said that based on the CCTV footage, the motorcycle was at fault, although authorities still investigated the van driver to determine whether any liability existed.

"Base sa CCTV, nakita natin na 'yung motor ang nagkaroon ng problema. Nonetheless, dinala natin dito 'yung driver ng commuter van and 'yun nga, nagkaroon ng investigation kung may pagkakasala," he said.

The rider was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.

Police identified the victim as a resident of Barangay Naguilayan in Binmaley, Pangasinan, who had reportedly come from the town of Mapandan.

Authorities also said the rider did not have a driver's license.

Police said both parties have already met and reached a settlement.

As of posting, the van driver and the family of the deceased rider are yet to release a statement.

Following the incident, Datuin reminded motorists to exercise caution when entering intersections.

"Pag intersection at liliko na tayo, tingnan muna natin ang magkabilang kalsada nang sa ganun, pag safe tayo, saka po tayo lumiko," he said.
