At least six people were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal compressor fishing in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

According to the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), the maritime law enforcement operation was conducted approximately 500 meters off Barangay Pundaguitan from 5 p.m. on July 21, 2026 to 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22.

During the operation, the suspects were caught allegedly violating a municipal ordinance, which prohibits the use of compressor fishing.

CGDSEM said the operating team spotted suspicious fishing activities and intercepted the suspects as they were reportedly returning from their fishing operation.

During inspection, authorities confirmed that the suspects used an illegal compressor apparatus, prompting them to confiscate a compressor set, air hoses, and other fishing paraphernalia used in the alleged illegal activity.

The arrested individuals, their motobanca, catch, and fishing equipment were turned over to the Municipal Agriculture Office for the proper filing of legal and administrative cases.

“CGDSEM remains committed to safeguarding the country's marine resources by intensifying maritime law enforcement operations and strengthening partnerships with local government units and other stakeholders to combat illegal fishing and promote the sustainable use of the nation's coastal and marine resources,” CGDSEM said.
