A fire swept through a food park in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan afternoon on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, destroying six stalls and leaving several tenants with heavy losses, authorities said.

Videos taken by bystanders showed flames razing the food park in Barangay Nancayasan as thick black smoke billowed from the establishment.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said six stalls were destroyed in the blaze.

Firefighters quickly responded and declared the fire under control after raising the first alarm. The fire was declared out at around 6:26 p.m.

SFO3 Benson Sison, caretaker of the Urdaneta City Fire Station, said firefighters immediately carried out strategic operations to stop the fire from spreading.

"Agad na sinize up namin 'yung lugar, tapos strategic firefighting para mabilis na maapula 'yung sunog," he said.

Witnesses said the fire started in one of the stalls.

According to food park organizer Dabie Roxas, the stall owner had reportedly converted a defective freezer into an incubator using an extension wire, which may have sparked the fire.

"Yung sirang freezer, ginawa niyang incubator. So pinailawan niya, tapos 'yung ginamit niyang wire is extension, so nag-spark po siya," she said.

Ladylee Zetona Umipig, a tenant, said she first noticed smoke coming from one room before seeing the flames grow rapidly.

"Nakita ko 'yung isang kwarto, umuusok. Tapos nakita ko 'yung apoy, malaki na. Nagtawag ako sa labas, wala na, malakas na 'yung apoy," she said.

Because the stalls were made of light materials, the fire spread quickly, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

Morning on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, several tenants returned to the site hoping to recover any belongings from their burned stalls.

Roxas said some owners managed to save a few personal items, but the tenants' business equipment and supplies were largely destroyed.

"Naisalba nila 'yung mga gamit nila pero 'yung lahat ng gamit ng tenant is walang naisalba. Thankfully, hindi sila nasaktan," she said.

As of posting, the BFP is continuing its investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the total amount of damage.

Sison also reminded the public to avoid makeshift electrical repairs and ensure proper wiring installations.

"Huwag tayong makuntento sa mga remedyo lang lalo na pagdating sa electrical wiring at installation dahil 'yun 'yung nangunguna rin sa listahan natin ng fire incident causes," he said.
