Police have identified the main suspect in the killing of an 85-year-old woman inside her home in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, and expect to file charges this week as investigators continue pursuing others who are involved.
The woman was laid to rest morning on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, as the Mangaldan Police Station announced that it had identified the one allegedly responsible for her death.
According to police, CCTV footage showed the suspect loitering around the victim's house before the crime. However, authorities declined to release the footage or disclose the suspect's identity while follow-up operations are ongoing.
Investigators also said witness testimonies have strengthened the case against the suspect.
Mangaldan Police Chief, Lt. Col. Perlito Tuayon, said authorities are now focused on completing the evidence.
"Tukoy na natin ang suspek, pinatitibay lang natin ang mga evidences. May mga testimonies na rin," he said.
Police said criminal charges are expected to be filed this week.
Authorities also revealed that another person is being investigated for allegedly taking part in the crime.
"Napakalaking bagay ng testimony ng mga witness. Hindi lang iisa ang suspek, may ni-li-link tayong iba pang suspek," Tuayon said.
The victim's family said they hope everyone responsible will be held accountable.
"Ang gusto lang namin, ma-serve ang justice kasi wala namang kasalanan ang nanay ko. Matanda na," they said.
Police have yet to disclose the motive for the killing, saying they will withhold details until all suspects have been arrested.
