A school in Iloilo and two in General Santos received security threats on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - the latest in the successive incidents of schools getting threats since the deadly shooting at a school in Tacloban City in June. 

The Iloilo school, Pototan Pilot Elementary School, was forced to suspend face-to-face classes.

The threat, which was sent as a message to a student, said the attack would happen midday on Friday, July 31. The sender also send a photo of a high-power firearm.

The police have sought help from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU)-6 in tracing and identifying the sender.

Meanwhile, two schools in General Santos City tightened their security after also receiving a threat.

The schools are the General Santos City SPED Integrated School and the Buayan National High School.

Police personnel were deployed to the Buayan National High School.

The two schools are still implementing online classes after face-to-face classes were suspended in June following the deadly magnitude 7.8 earthquake in neighboring Maasim, Sarangani.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of General Santos City, said it is aware of the threats that circulated and urged the public to remain calm.

Its statement reads in full:

“The Schools Division Office of General Santos City is aware of online threats targeting schools and learners. We assure our stakeholders that we are closely coordinating with law enforcement and partner agencies to safeguard our communities.

We remind everyone: the intent of these perpetrators is to spread fear. Let us remain calm, avoid sharing unverified information, and report any suspicious activity to proper authorities.

Together, we will protect our schools, uphold safety, and ensure that these threats do not disrupt learning.”
