A truck carrying boxes of flowers crashed along a downhill section of Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet, after its brakes allegedly failed.

CCTV footage showed the truck veering suddenly into the opposite lane, where it nearly collided with an oncoming car. The driver managed to avoid the vehicle before the truck hit a riprap barrier, overturn, and slide along the road.

Police said the truck was bound for La Union when the accident happened.

Tuba Police Chief, Major Orville Wap, said the driver realized the brakes had failed while descending the highway.

"Sa may pababang portion ng daanan, nakahalata na siya na hindi kumakapit 'yung preno kaya dumire-diretso siya sa parapet. May kasunod siyang bus. Ngayon, iiwasan niya sana 'yun. Ngayon pag-iwas niya, buti hindi nasagi 'yung isang maliit na sasakyan," he said.

Emergency responders rescued the truck's occupants immediately.

The three helpers escaped with minor injuries while the driver became trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated.

Wap said the driver remains under observation in a hospital after suffering a fracture in his left leg.

"Nasa ospital siya ngayon under observation kasi sa initial na nakuha natin sa ospital is may fracture siya sa left leg," he said.

Police said the crash was the 61st vehicular accident recorded in Tuba since January 2026.

Authorities again reminded motorists, especially drivers of heavily loaded vehicles, to inspect their vehicles thoroughly before traveling to help prevent road accidents.
