A two-year-old boy who had been reported missing for a week was found dead in a grassy area in Butuan City.
The rice field is located in Purok 3, Barangay Camayahan. The boy’s mother broke down in tears when her son was found on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
According to the Butuan City Police, the child had been missing for a week before a farmer found his body at a grassy field about two kilometers away from his home.
The mother told the police she was sweeping outside their house morning on July 23 and the child was just inside. He went missing missing.
Neighbors and relatives joined the police in searching for the child to no avail.
Authorities said the child's body was bloated when found and his face had already begun to decompose.
“Positive gyud ug gipaari namo ang ginikanan so ilaha pud gi-confirm nga ilaha gyud ning anak,” Butuan City Police Station 4, Major Ian Gilbert Lodonia, said.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) retrieved the child’s body from the field. They could no longer determine the possible cause of the child’s death because the body was already in a state of decomposition when found.
The boy’s parents agreed to the recommendation of authorities for the child’s remains to be subjected to an autopsy.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death.
Authorities also want to find out if foul play was involved.
