A stray bullet had pierced through the roof of a house in the town of Oton in Iloilo.

No one was harmed but the incident sowed fear among the residents. 

The incident happened dawn on July 29, 2026. The residents reportedly heard a thud-like sound at past 5 a.m. but thought it was only a rock that hit their roof.

A few hours later at around 9 a.m., they found a fired bullet on their sofa. They also found out later that there was already a hole in their ceiling, as well as on the door of their restroom.

The Oton Municipal Police Station has opened an investigation into the incident and has sent an investigator to check the house and areas nearby. The investigation will determine how the bullet ended up in the house. 

“Upon receiving ng information, napuntahan na ng ating investigator and na-confirm natin ang report sa ating mga residente. Sa part natin, nag-conduct tayo ng investigation sa bahay niya at nearby if mayroon silang na-notice ang pagputok,” said Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, chief of the Oton Police.

According to a barangay official, their tanods go around the barangay regularly and did not notice anything suspicious or unusual.

Councilman Cornelio Elle Cagbang said this is the first time a stray bullet has pierced through a house in the barangay.

“First time iyan sa tagal ko dito sa barangay na may tumama na stray bullet sa bubong,” he said.
