Flooding continued to affect parts of Pangasinan as five major river systems remained above normal levels.

The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the Marusay River in Calasiao and the Cayanga River in San Fabian remain above normal levels. The Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara, Balincaguing River in Mabini, and Pantal River in Dagupan have also risen above normal.

As river levels continue to rise, the PDRRMO advised the public not to wade or swim in rivers to avoid accidents. Assistant DRRM Officer Avenix Arenas also urged residents in high-risk areas to evacuate when needed.

“Kung kinakailangan lumikas ang ating kababayan ay gawin na nila. May mga designated evacuation centers naman,” Arenas said.

The number of flooded barangays in the province has increased to 52, affecting 25,672 families or 93,316 individuals. Despite the situation, the PDRRMO has downgraded the status of its Emergency Operations Center to Blue Alert while keeping response teams and equipment on standby.

“Kahit na nag-down grade tayo sa blue alert status ay nandun pa rin ang ating strict monitoring, ang ating equipment at manpower ay in place pa rin. Naka-on call 'yan ready to be deployed,” Arenas said.

One of the affected areas is Sitio Binco in Barangay Talibaew, Calasiao, where residents said floodwaters have reached around five feet, forcing them to rely on makeshift rafts to move around the community.

Willy Untalan, a resident, said they had prepared for flooding because it occurs in their area regularly.

“Five feet diyan, lubog ako diyan. Ito gagawa kami ng balsa, preparation na 'yan. Bago dumating 'yung ganito, alam na namin,” Untalan said.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said three of Calasiao's 12 flooded barangays were inundated due to the rising river, while other areas were flooded by stagnant rainwater. At around noon, the Marusay River reached 7.9 feet, just below its critical level of 8 feet. Authorities continue to monitor low-lying communities and schools in the municipality.

Calasiao DRRM Office spokesperson Kristine Joy Soriano warned that more barangays could be affected if the river continues to rise.

“Ito ay nasa alarm level pa lang pero malapit na itong umabot sa critical level. May posibilidad na madagdagan 'yung ating mga barangays na makakaranas ng pagbaha,” she said.
