Authorities have launched a search for an 19-year-old man who was reportedly swept away by the strong current at the river where he was looking for frog to eat in Barangay Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City over the weekend.
Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) responded immediately.
CDRRMD said the incident occurred at past 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 and was reported around 10 a.m.
The man has not been found as of Monday, August 10. Authorities have started searching downstream.
“Atong gina-try gihapon dinhi downstream anaa atong team dadto nagpahigayon sila sa search and retrieval again.
CDRRMD said the man was with a friend when they attempted to cross the river to look for frogs, but the victim was swept away by the strong current and disappeared.
“Kaning 19 yrs old nga taga Baungon (Bukidnon) kauban ang iyang amigo. So ang ilaha unta ato mutabok sa suba aron mangita og bakbak (baki) pagtan-aw nila pagtabok nilayo na diretso ang ilang amigo and then nawala,” CDRRMD Head, Nick Jabagat, said.
Following the incident, authorities reminded residents living near rivers in the city to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
