A fire razed a house in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

The house in Barangay Guinhalaran was owned by the Larraga family.

According to the Bureau of Fire (BFP), the fire may have been caused by an appliance that was plugged at the second floor of the house.

What may have triggered the fire was the sudden resumption of power.

“Then sudden na na-restore ang power so isa sa tinitingnan natin is due to sudden (power resumption). Iyan ang point or origin, sa second floor ng bahay,” said Supt. Publio Ploteña, fire marshal of BFP Silay City.

The house owner, Felanie Larraga, said the fire spread quickly.

“Bigla na lang lumiyab. Mabilis na kumalat ang apoy,” she said.

Residents in the area urged authorities to address the so-called ‘spaghetti wires’ in the barangay.

“I-clear nila ang wiring. Iyan ang cause ng sunog,” said Joel, a resident.

Meanwhile, a fire that hit the second floor of a grocery store in Balasan, Iloilo reached the third alarm.

The fire hit a stockroom where plastic items were stored, which was why the fire lasted for eight hours.

“Mabuti sa tulong ng community natin, nag-bucket brigade po sila. ‘Yun nakatulong po talaga,” said SF03 Juben Lopez Acting Fire Marshal of the Balasan BFP.
