The City Government of Zamboanga has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, rumors, photographs, and videos following a shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High School that left two people dead on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

In a statement, the city government said such information could cause unnecessary alarm and potentially interfere with the ongoing police response and investigation.

Authorities said they are closely coordinating with the school management, the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), and other concerned agencies as the incident is being addressed.

The city government assured the public that the situation is under control and that appropriate security measures are in place.

The school management also issued an advisory, saying the situation is now under control and classes have been suspended following the incident.

Authorities called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and responsible, emphasizing that the safety of students, teachers, and school communities remains its highest priority.

The public is advised to rely only on official advisories from the city government, the police, school management, and other authorized authorities.

“The safety and well-being of our people remain the highest priority of the City Government of Zamboanga,” the city government said.
