Face-to-face classes at Tigbauan National High School in Iloilo were suspended on Thursday, August 20, 2026, after information circulated of a threat to the school.

Based on police investigation, a teacher at the school received a message of a supposed shooting threat.

At past 7 a.m., the students were advised to go home and were told they would shift to alternative delivery mode of teaching.

“Sa Plaza, sabi nila sinuspendi ang klase kasi meron umanong nagdala ng baril,” said a Grade 9 student.

“7:35 umano sila pinalabas. Hindi nga namin alam. Tinanong ko sila kung ano ang dahilan bakit pinauwi ang mga estudyante,” said Jeanne, a guardian.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division in Iloilo confirmed that the threat received but assured it has been addressed.

“Meron siya pero na-address naman ng school,” said Leonil Salvilla, spokesperson of the Schools Division of Iloilo.

The police are tracing the source of the threat, as of this writing.

“Under control natin ang sitwasyon. Ineembestigahan natin kasi kung sa akin, nakisabay lang sila sa trending sa nangyari after sa Zamboanga. Pero hindi natin ‘yan kini-carry na mag-lax tayo sa security,” said Capt. Alfred Mansoy, chief of the Tigbauan Municipal Police Station.

The incident in Zamboanga on August 18, 2026 involved a student of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) firing guns inside the school, which ended with two people dead, one of whom was the student shooter.

Even before the incident in Zamboanga, schools across the country have received security threats, which have become frequent since the deadly shooting at a school in Tacloban City in June 2026.
