A man wanted for murder was killed while his wife was injured when police officers served a warrant against him in Barangay Kuloy, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), the warrant was issued in connection to a murder case filed in 2014.
PRO-BAR said the suspect identified as alias “London” allegedly fired at the operating team after officers who identified themselves as officers and urged him to surrender peacefully.
The operating team returned fire and hit the suspect who was then brought to a medical facility but was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect’s wife was also injured during the exchange of fire. She is receiving medical treatment, as of this writing.
Police added that the couple’s companion identified as alias “Cobra” was arrested after a hand grenade was seized from him. He will face charges.
PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the incident highlights the risks faced by police officers in the line of duty and stressed the importance of restraint, discipline, and strict adherence to established procedures.
“We know the risks that come with this job, but every operation must still be handled with discipline and care. Ang mahalaga, our officers act within the law and do everything possible to resolve an encounter without unnecessary harm,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez directed concerned units to thoroughly document and review the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the injury sustained by the suspect’s wife.
