A Brown booby (Sula leucogaster), a large seabird of the booby family Sulidae, was turned over to the San Jose Pawikan Center in Barangay Funda Dalipe, San Jose town, Province of Antique.

A fisherman sighted this large seabird reportedly having difficulty in flying. He captured the bird and had it turned over to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.

As of this posting, it is under the care of Dr. Marco Ardamil of the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office.

The Brown booby weighs over a kilo, he said, and that no wounds were found on the bird’s body.

The bird will be released in the wild as soon as its condition improves, he added.

Sightings of Brown booby colonies in North Islet or Bird Islet in Tubbataha (Palawan-Sulu seawaters) have been recorded.

However, Under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Administrative Order No. 2019-09, or the Updated List of Threatened Philippine Fauna, the Brown booby is already considered endangered.
