At least two people died in General Santos City when a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Davao Occidental afternoon on November 17, 2023.
According to the police, a couple died when a concrete wall collapsed on them at the compound where they worked in Barangay San Isidro.
The fatalities were identified as Danny and Jane Ginung, 26 and 18 years old, respectively.
They were already dead when responders arrived.
They were residents of Barangay Sinawal, also in General Santos.
The earthquake was reportedly initially at magnitude 7.2 but the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) downgraded it later to magnitude 6.8.
The quake damaged structures in General Santos, including two of the city’s malls.
