The family of Rolando Serapon is seeking justice after the newly elected barangay captain of Calitlitan, Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, was shot fatally in his home on November 17, 2023.

"Justice ang gusto ko. Ang lolo ko, siya ang nagpaganda ng Barangay Calitlitan kahit kanino kayo magtanong. Siya ang gumalaw para palakihin ang barangay," says Serapon’s granddaughter. 

While the motive remains unclear, authorities are exploring the possibility of political involvement.

"Lahat ng possible na dinaanan ng suspek ay iniimbestigahan. Ma-identify ang mukha at identity ng suspek," said PCapt. Manny Paul Pawid, Public Information Officer of Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police Office.

The victim's family said Serapon had no known enemies and had not received any death threat prior to the shooting.

Based on investigation, the assailant entered the victim’s house, fired multiple shots, and fled on a motorcycle.  

Serapon did not make it to the hospital alive. 

"According sa video na pinanuod ko, limang putok, pero mga bala ang nakita ay six to seven. Masakit pero kailangan naming magpakatatag kasi si lolo, noong nabubuhay, ayaw niya kaming nakikitang down," his granddaughter said.
