The Provincial Government of Camarines Norte is looking into the discovery of alleged illegal quarry operations in various areas across the province.

Videos presented during a meeting of the Governor's Special Action Group showed the alleged illegal extraction of aggregates and the transport of materials by trucks from the extraction sites.

Illegal excavation along the shores by a contractor allegedly in a river control project in Barangay Bakiad and Sta. Cruz in Labo, was also reported. Despite a joint inspection conducted by authorities, no arrests were made at the site.

Engr. Edwin Bermal of the First District Engineering Office says they will look into the matter.

"So we are going to have an assessment with regards to that particular project, kung talagang sa amin... siguro mag-aano kami with regards to the contractors kung sa kanila talaga 'yan," he says.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Environmental Protection has expressed disappointment over the discovery.

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), regulations strictly prohibit the extraction or quarrying within a 10-meter radius of government structures and one kilometer from a bridge.
