A family whose house was destroyed during the widespread flooding in San Roque town, Northern Samar has set camp by the roadside across their house.

The house owned by the Surio family is just one of 56 destroyed after floodwaters inundated barangays in the Municipality of San Roque on November 21, 2023.

Rosa Surio, the matriarch of the family, said the land where their house was standing on collapsed after Naperes Zone 3, Barangay Poblacion was inundated by floods because of the impact of the shear line.

A slip on a portion of Catarman-Laoang road is visible in front of their house.

Northern Samar is one of two provinces in the island of Samar that was affected severely by the rainfall which persisted for days.

A reported month’s-worth of rainfall poured within 24 hours that led to the massive flooding on November 21, 2023 and displacement of 111,000 families.

After the distribution of family food packs, the victims are also set to receive financial assistance.
