Optimistic about its potential to help boost tourism and economy in the province, Pangasinan has tested the use of a seaplane for a trip to Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos City.
Governor Ramon Guico III participated in the pilot testing.
"Ang seaplane is an amphibious aircraft, pwede sa land, pwede sa sea," Guico says, highlighting the versatility of the mode of transport.
The seaplane is deemed 100 percent feasible and holds the promise of offering an efficient mode of transportation to showcase Pangasinan's scenic wonders.
The introduction of seaplanes is expected to reduce travel time significantly from Manila to Lingayen and Alaminos City. While conventional land travel takes approximately five hours, the seaplane aims to cover the distance in just one hour.
"Importante ang accessibility kasi we have to promote the province in such a way that we tap all market segments. May masa, mid at high end, ang hindi pa na-tap diyan (ay) 'yung taas. Ito 'yung tipong mga turista na they don't care how much they spend, ang importante sa kanila 'yung oras, convenience, quality of service," Guico says.
The seaplane can accommodate up to 10 passengers, and can offer an exclusive and efficient travel option. Guico envisions it as a private plane equivalent, allowing individuals or a small group to reach exclusive destinations with ease.
"Imagine, from Manila Bay, diretso na mag-landing sa Hundred Islands and then mayroon ka lang very few cottages doon. Hindi maraming tao, very secluded, very private. 'Yun 'yung market," the governor says.
The provincial government is studying and laying out plans actively, including the necessary requirements, to materialize the project. The initial plan involves acquiring two seaplanes.
