The Department of Public Works and Highways has turned over to the City Government of Lapu-Lapu the newly repaired Angasil wharf. Port operations open on December 1, 2023.
The wharf is widened to 42 meters for the convenience of port-users to and from Olango Island.
Repair works began in May 2023 after the port was destroyed by Super Typhoon Odette in December 2021.
Malacañang approved funds worth P15 million for the repair works through the office of Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan.
Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said that the widened port will benefit more passengers, vendors, tricycle drivers, port hands, fast craft operators, porters, among others.
Officials of Barangay Mactan and chairpersons of adjacent barangays and of nearby islands attended the turnover ceremony.
