In a move to support marine conservation efforts, the seasonal closure of Batangas waters is back in effect starting December 1, 2023 until January 31, 2024.

During this period, the use of active fishing gears such as trawl, beach seine, and purse seine for catching round scad (galunggong), bigeye scad (matambaka), small pelagic fish, or anchovies (dulong) is strictly prohibited. Authorities aim to provide a conducive environment for fish breeding and allow the fish population to flourish.

Furthermore, from January 1 to March 31, 2024, the use of fine mesh nets will also be banned, aligning with the provisions of the Philippine Fisheries Code. This measure is designed to afford ample time for fish to spawn and for fry to grow, contributing to the rejuvenation of the local fisheries sector.
