The recurrence of a multitude of flies originating from a local poultry farm in Sitio Kibkiban, Barangay Talumpok West, Batangas City has alarmed residents once again.
Cases of fly infestation were reported back on October 16, 2023 and November 15, 2023.
These flies disappeared gradually in the two weeks that followed but their resurgence raised concerns anew among residents like Reynard Labayan who fears for the health and safety of his family.
A resident's video shows the flies returning to their dining table, making it nearly impossible for them to eat without covering their food with cloth. The infestation is believed to be a consequence of chicken harvesting at the farm.
The barangay council is reportedly considering actions to address the residents' complaints.
The farm owners have assured they are taking measures to eliminate the flies permanently and prevent further impact on residents.
As of December 4, 2023, the City Health Office has yet to issue a statement on the issue.
