Money worth P5,900, a .38 revolver with six live bullets, and a grenade were recovered from an alleged robber who was trapped inside a pawnshop in Cebu City.
Juanito Branzuela Dilvo, Jr., 25-years old, of Barangay Canduman in Mandaue City, was trapped inside Palawan Pawnshop and Remittance Center along Natalio Bacalso Avenue (South Expressway) in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
Based on initial investigation by the Labangon Police, Dilvo went inside the pawnshop through the roof at dawn of December 14, 2023.
Workers in neighboring establishments noticed that someone was inside the pawnshop when they heard thuds.
Dilvo hit reportedly office equipment and a water dispenser while he was trying to find his way out. The noise attracted people outside the pawnshop who suspected the thuds could not have come from rodents.
"Nakaingon gyud mi nga dili man ron ilaga uy, naa gyuy tawo sa sulod," an employee of an adjacent eatery said.
The suspect got hold of the gun issued to the pawnshop's security guard which was deposited in a safebox after duty hours as a standard procedure.
As for the grenade, Dilvo said, he found it somewhere and picked it up.
The suspect is now detained at the Labangon Police Station.
Meanwhile, the members of the media were directed not to put on livestream again any operation of the police force.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, the deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office, said the members of the media were exposed to high risk in the negotiations done between the Labangon Police along with the Special Weapons and Tactics Team and the suspect.
P/Lt. Col. Rafter said had any untoward incident happened, as the suspect was armed, the blame will always be on the police, and not on the imprudence on the part of the media people covering the incident.
