Heavy rains in the Province of Davao Oriental where tropical cyclone “Kabayan” made landfall on December 18, 2023 inundated barangays in various towns.

The Lamiawan Bridge in Barangay Lamiawan, Caraga, Davao Oriental collapsed due to intense flooding.

According to the local government, the bridge connects Poblacion area and Barangay Pichon, where the Mandaya tribe lives.

Efforts have been made to reach the affected residents and ensure prompt response despite challenges in deploying essential equipment because of the reported multiple landslides along Buntalinao area.

Government soldiers rescued and evacuated residents affected by Tropical Depression Kabayan in Caraga.

Flood victims are taking shelter at the San Jose gym in Barangay Poblacion.

The military said that troops are also dispatched in Barangay Alegria in Cateel to extend assistance in terms of rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, a landslide hit Sitio Depot, in Barangay Upper Ulip in Monkayo town, Davao de Oro because of the heavy rainfall brought about by TD Kabayan.

An electric pole toppled down and blocked the road.

As of this writing, clearing operations are yet to be announced because of the inclement weather.
