At least three consecutive incidents of drunk driving were recorded in Zone 7, San Felipe, Naga City morning on December 17, 2023.
The first incident occurred at 2 a.m. when a pick-up van overturned and rammed into a tree. Residents and local authorities responded quickly to the scene.
"May nadangog kaming kalabog, makusugon na maray. Akala mi ngani digdi na sa may side kang higdaan mi," Evelyn Rivera, a resident, said.
An hour later, a motorcycle collided with the overturned pick-up that was still on the roadside. The driver sustained injuries and was brought immediately to the hospital.
Moments after sunrise, another vehicle collided with the pick-up and hit a tricycle parked nearby.
Authorities said the three drivers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accidents.
"Mahewas ang tinampo, natapos duman si expansion. Siguro dae matansya kang driver na mahewas si tinampo then biglang nagsadit, saro siguro ito sa kawsa. Asin an ikaduwa, nakainom gabos na driver kan behikulo... nakainom ang sabi ninda." Alfonso Rodriguez, Barangay Captain of San Felipe, says.
There were road signs in the area that warned drivers.
Authorities reminded motorists to never drive after drinking liquor, especially this holiday season when gatherings and celebrations are frequent.
