An elderly couple was killed in their own home in Barangay San Vicente, Santo Tomas, Pampanga.

The primary suspect - their nephew who had just been released from prison and who was allegedly under the influence of drugs when he allegedly committed the crime.

The victims were identified as Rolando and Rosario David, 72, and 66 years old, respectively. Authorities identified their nephew as Raymond Fernando, 48.

PCapt. Jester Calis, chief of the Santo Tomas Police Station, said Rolando still tried to fight his nephew off but died later from stab wounds. Rosario died from strangulation.

“’Yung victim nating lalaki, allegedly nakipaglaban pa sa suspek. ‘Yung initial findings ng SOCO, namatay siya sa stab wounds. ‘Yung babae naman sa kuwarto, namatay siya sa strangulation. So, afterwards, noong natapos ‘yung crime scene processing nila, initially, ano, may nawawalang mga items like jewelries sa box,” Calis said.

He said that when police found the suspect, they also found in his possession money and the pieces of jewelry that went missing from the victims’ house.

“May kinuwento sila sa atin na dati may nagnakaw din sa biktima at ‘yun ‘yung kamag-anak nila na bagong labas sa kulungan. Pinuntahan namin ‘yun, pinataas namin ‘yung damit niya kasi may nakaumbok doon sa may tagiliran niya, [tapos] nakita naming may pera at alahas. ‘Yun, nagduda na kami na ‘yung alahas na ‘yun ay sa victim,” Calis said..

Fernando reportedly was in need of money,

“'Kailangan daw niyang dumiskarte ng pera… ‘yun ‘yung pinaka-number one na reason niya eh," Calis said.

The couple’s relatives are determined to pursue legal action against the suspect.
