A 49-year-old man died after he was hit by a car while walking on the side of the road in Pamplona, Camarines Sur.
It was around 6 p.m. on January 1, 2024 when the victim was on his way to buy rice when the car hit him. As seen on CCTV footage, the vehicle did not stop after hitting the man.
Authorities are investigating the case to identify the driver of the vehicle.
With the increase in the number of travelers returning from New Year celebrations, local police personnel have been deployed to key areas in Pamplona.
Their presence aims to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, provide assistance, and maintain order.
PCapt. Dulcesimo Alcantara Jr., Deputy Chief of Police of Pamplona, emphasized the importance of heightened police visibility to prevent unforeseen incidents, such as pickpocketing, and to enhance overall safety in the community.
"Then iyon atin pong patrolling, ‘yung ating maximum police visibility para maiwasan ‘yung iba pang insidente gaya ng pick-pocketing, continuous po at pina-igting pa namin para maiwasan na magkaroon pa ng mga insidenteng hindi inaasahan," he said.
