The Cebu City Police Office will have the body of 18-year-old Angela Arcilla undergo an autopsy to determine if she indeed committed suicide. 

The woman was found dead inside her house in the upland barangay of Sudlon Dos, Cebu City on New Year’s eve.

An autopsy will help establish if there was indeed foul play in her death. 

Angela’s live-in partner, Jomart Monicar, found her limp body twilight of December 31, 2023. Jomart said he called for help as soon as he noticed of the motionless body.

Angela was taken to a hospital in Cebu City where she was pronounced dead. 

Angela’s parents, Richard and Aurora, said that the attending physician told them Angela could have committed suicide as a rope mark was found on her neck. 

The parents refused to believe that their daughter took her own life as she had not discussed of any problem and was, in fact, excited to join her parents for the New Year celebration. 

Angela’s parents pointed out that the mark did not go around the neck.

They surmised that there was foul play in the incident and that they suspected of a person with which Angela had a past squabble. 

A neighbor identified as Glycia Babes Racoma said she saw Jomart standing out of the couple’s shanty 30 minutes before he called for help. He was said to be tinkering his cellphone.  

Glycia was identified to be the person with which Angela had a fight with in the past. However, Glycia said that they have already reconciled. 

Jomart’s elder brother, Rodel Monicar, expressed of his suspicion that Angela and his sibling could have had an argument again.

He described his brother to be irascible and had even raised a hand against Angela. 

When sought for comment, Jomart admitted there were times he had hit Angela. However, he reasoned out it did not reach the point of being harsh as those were reportedly petty quarrels.

He said he will face investigation should he be implicated in the incident. 

The police also conducted a search on the rope reportedly used based on the attending physician’s finding. 

Angela left behind a five-year-old baby.
