They say opposites attract, and in this case, they absolutely do.
Profood International Corporation, the country’s top standard bearer for world-class processed Philippine fruits, has introduced a daring new creation: the spicy version of its iconic Cebu Brand Dried Mango.
Their newest creation brings the sunny sweetness of Cebu mangoes and the bold warmth of spice together in one irresistible bite.
Sweet, tangy, and now with a touch of heat. It teases the taste buds with warmth, not burns; that delightful tingle that keeps you reaching for more.
FINDING THE HOLY ‘CHILI’ GRAIL
According to Profood Founder and Chairman Justin Uy, this spicy dried mango has been in the works long before the COVID-19 pandemic. Finding the right spice profile proved to be a global quest.
“We just couldn’t get the right spices... I went to China, India, and Mexico, all known for their chili. We wanted something that Asians would love, not too hot, not too mild. Just right,” Uy said.
The right flavor balance, one that complements the natural sweetness of mango, came together, finally, after years of testing and refining.
A CHILI CON-STRUCTION
Beyond flavor, Uy said creating this bold new variant required serious preparation and investment, even down to building a new dedicated facility.
“The reason why it takes us too long, it’s not only sourcing the spices. It’s also where you have to build an entire new facility because this will contaminate other products,” he explained.
Each pack of Cebu Brand Spicy Dried Mango goes through rigorous testing, including shelf-life and microbiological checks, to meet international standards.
True to its reputation, Profood holds multiple international quality certifications, including ISO 9001:2015, HACCP, BRCGS, HALAL, and KOSHER.
After 47 years of steady growth, Profood now spans the Philippines and exports to over 50 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, and Oceania.
ACROSS THE SPICE-IFIC OCEAN
While the Philippines is always the first to try any new Profood creation, Uy confirmed that the Cebu Brand Spicy Dried Mango has already reached foreign markets for trial.
“It hits both the Asian and Mexican palate, and Filipinos like it too. That’s how we knew we got it right,” Uy said.
True to its global footprint, Profood is known to cater to diverse palates, from Asian consumers who love a hint of spice to Western audiences eager to explore new flavor experiences.
THE SPICE THE LIMIT
The spicy dried mango is just the start. Uy said the company is already planning more spicy versions of other fruits, as well as other export-exclusive innovations.
“Profood will always be there to create new products,” he said.
The new Cebu Brand Spicy Dried Mango is available both online via TikTok Shop and in major supermarkets and specialty stores nationwide, from select SM, Ayala, Metro, Landmark, Unimart branches, to Gaisano Mall branches in Davao, as well as the Profood Gallery Giftshoppe and airport souvenir shops.
Whether you’re a long-time fan of Cebu’s signature dried mangoes or a first-timer looking for something extraordinary, Profood’s Cebu Brand Spicy Dried Mango is a must-try.
Because sweet can be bold. And heat can feel like home.
