Cavite City is one of the oldest historic cities in the Philippines, traces its name to Kawit or Cauit, meaning “hook,” inspired by the shape of its peninsula along Bacoor Bay. Renowned for its rich maritime heritage, deep Catholic faith, and vibrant cultural traditions, the city remains one of Cavite’s most significant historical and tourism destinations.

Among its most celebrated traditions is the Regada Water Festival, held every June 24 in honor of St. John the Baptist. Derived from the Spanish word regar (“to sprinkle with water”), the festival symbolizes blessings, renewal, and gratitude. Regada water sprinklers shower thousands of people dancing in anticipation of blessings to overflow when doused with water.

Thus, it was a wet and wonderful day in Cavite City as the festivities were in full swing at the 2026 Regada Water Festival. Locals and tourists joined in the celebration, ready and willing to get drenched from head to toe, courtesy of the one-kilometer long continuous sprinkler system right down the center of Regada avenue, the largest sprinkler system among all water-based festivals. Anyone caught under this “sprinkler zone” was guaranteed to get soaked, not that anyone minded. Local businesses lining the avenue also armed themselves with their own specialized water cannons, high-pressure hoses and water-throwing stations.

This year’s Regada celebration, dubbed “We are Wetter Together!” was a two week-long festival in Cavite City with various activities lined-up that showcased their rich culture, produce and creativity: street parties, bazaars, cooking competitions, art and religious exhibits, photography and Reels and Tiktok contests, and even a beach cleaning activity.

But of course, the main splash of Regada 2026 is the above-mentioned Regada Water Festival.  Regada Avenue was packed with thousands of Caviteños eager to get drenched while enjoying the frenzied festivities. On the main stage, local artists and rock bands upped the energy level 100%, while GMA Kapuso artists added a dash of celebrity to the event - Kamao stars Katrina Halili and Chanty Videla, Sparkle artist Vince Maristela, and TiktoClock and All-Out Sundays diva Hannah Precillas energized the crowd with their performances, further heightening the excitement and joy of the celebration.

All in all, Regada 2026 was a splashing success - leaving everyone soaking wet but extremely happy and utterly grateful for the blessings that come their way. Cavite City sure knows how to beat the summer heat in style.
