The GMA Kapuso Foundation has found support from a Japanese company in its ongoing relief and recovery initiatives for communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

Nitori Holdings Co. Ltd., Japan’s largest furniture and home-furnishing retain chain, turned over up to P30 million in cash donation during the third wave of the foundation’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Nitori Philippines Inc. also donated P7.5 million worth of relief items, including brand-new beddings, housewares, and clothing.

The donations were coursed through the Office of the First Lady in Malacañang and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The donations were turned over to the GMA Kapuso Foundation and received by GMA Network Senior Vice President and GMA Kapuso Foundation Trustee, Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) assisted in identifying qualified beneficiaries to ensure that the assistance will reach those affected severely by the earthquake.

“The government, through the Office of the First Lady, introduced GMA Kapuso Foundation as a trusted organization that is responsible and effective… in managing the delivery of support to those in need,” Nitori Holdings Co. Ltd. Chairman and CEO, Akio Nitori, said.

GMA Kapuso Foundation will use the cash donation to fund the construction of temporary shelter pods for families whose houses were destroyed totally in Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidnetal; Barangay San Jose, General Santos City; and Tupi, South Cotabato.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo and we promise that we will execute their donation to the best of our ability at serbisyong totoo talaga ang gagawin ng Kapuso Foundation,” Gozon-Valdes said.

First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos was present during the initial distribution of donated goods to 1,000 families at the Lun Padidu High School Covered Court in Malapatan, Saranggani on July 21.

Relief items will be distributed to 3,500 families whose houses suffered partial damage in Malapatan, Glan, Maasim, Alabel, Sarangani; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; and Polomolok, South Cotabato from July 21 to 25, 2026.

GMA Kapuso Foundation expressed its deepest gratitude to Nitori Holdings Co. Ltd. (Japan) and Nitori Philippines, Inc. for their generosity and trust, saying that through the partnership, thousands of families affected by the earthquake will receive immediate relief and long-term support as they rebuild their homes, restore their lives, and move forward.
