Butuan City dominated the Caraga Regional Athletic Games 2024 held in Agusan del Sur.
Based on results, Butuan City bested 11 other delegates as it garnered 90 gold, 68 silver, and 63 bronze medals.
Tailing Butuan City is Agusan del Sur with 86 gold, 69 silver, and 74 bronze medals while placing third is Agusan del Norte with 59 gold, 68 silver, and 58 bronze medals.
Completing the ranking are the following:
- - Surigao del Sur (50 gold, 53 silver, and 63 bronze medals)
- - Surigao City (32 gold, 40 silver, and 69 bronze medals)
- - Bayugan City (31 gold, 6 silver, and 13 bronze medals)
- - Tandag City (23 gold, 21 silver, and 19 bronze medals)
- - Cabadbaran City (13 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals)
- - Surigao del Norte (9 gold, 14 silver, 33 bronze medals)
- - Bislig City (7 gold, 26 silver, and 46 bronze medals)
- - Siargao Island (6 gold, 19 silver, and 26 bronze medals)
- - Dinagat Island (2 gold, 13 silver, and 15 bronze medals)
The week-long sports competition, which started last May 5 and ended on Friday, May 10, 2024, was organized by the Agusan del Sur provincial government in partnership with the Department of Education-Caraga (DepEd-13).
Most of the sports events were held at the Datu Lupus Makapandong D.O. Plaza Sports Complex in Patin-ay, Prosperidad town while some events were conducted in the towns of Rosario, San Francisco, and Bayugan City.
The sports complex has a 3,000 - seat capacity grandstand, rubberized track and field oval, football field with artificial grass, an Olympic - size swimming pool, air-conditioned courts for volleyball and basketball, tennis courts, among others. A 24-room hotel is also capable of housing guests and delegates.
The Caraga Regional Athletic Games serves as a platform where talents of student athletes are honed, and healthy competition and sportsmanship among participants across five provinces in the region are cultivated.
