Carlos Yulo made history in the summer Olympics in Paris when he bagged for the Philippines the country's first gold medal in gymnastics. Yulo earned an impressive score of 15.000 in the men's floor exercise final.
In a report by GMA Integrated News, Yulo's near-perfect routine was anchored on 6.600 from difficulty and 8.400 from execution.
He defeated defending gold medalist Artem Dolgopyat of Israel and Jake Jarman, the top performer during the qualification round.
Dolgopyat, 27, who reigned supreme in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men's floor finals, settled for silver, this time, with 14.966 points while Jarman won bronze with 14.933 points.
Yulo did not qualify for the finals in the Tokyo games but won in the same event in the World Championship, Asian Championship, and Southeast Asian Games.
Yulo's gold is the Philippines' first medal in the Paris games and the second for the country in the Olympics after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz's gold finish in 2020.
