CSB-La Salle Green Hills' Guillian Quines may have already played his final game in the high school ranks after he was ejected late in their game against Emilio Aguinaldo College on Monday in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball, reads a story by GMA Integrated News' Bea Micaller.
The ejection automatically merits a one-game suspension and in his case, it will be applied when the Greenies take on second-seeded Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the Final Four with the latter holding a twice-to-beat advantage.
LSGH, though, will look to appeal Quines' case before the management committee, hoping for the sharpshooter to play in their do-or-die match with the Squires.
But unless the suspension gets overturned and the Greenies pull off a victory over Letran to force a deciding Game 2, Quines may have already concluded his juniors stint.
"Parang na-dismaya lang din ako sa nangyari at sa ginawa ko. Nagfo-focus pa rin naman ako sa last game namin and ‘yung nangyaring tawag sa akin ia-appeal pa naman daw ng staff namin," he said.
"Focused lang ako sa pwedeng mangyari."
[I'm dismayed at what happened and what I did. But I'm still focused on our last game and the call that was made, our staff said they will appeal. I'm still focused on what could happen.]
The graduating Quines admitted emotions got the better of him in the highly-intense encounter with the Brigadiers, where the winner will get an outright Final Four ticket.
The incident happened when Quines was called for a second infraction of technical foul due to taunting that came after rejecting a layup fastbreak layup attempt by Clint Bonus with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter.
Before that, Quines was also whistled for a similar call with 2:29 to go in the third period.
"Siguro nadala lang kami sa emotions namin nu’ng last play kasi sobrang ganda na nu’ng nangyayaring effort ng team and ‘yung energy talaga," he shared.
"Siguro emotions lang talaga ‘yung nangyari ‘yung last sequence na ‘yun."
[I guess I was carried away with the emotions on our last play because our team's energy and effort was really good... I guess it was just emotions during that last sequence.]
Regardless of what happens, Quines is just proud of what the team has accomplished so far this season, rising from a tough 3-6 finish last year to a Final Four return this edition with the likes of other graduating players like Dale Ortega, James Ison, and Gian Gomez leading the way.
"Itong season na ‘to nakapa-importante nito sa amin kasi last playing year namin. Talagang ‘yung bawat game, ‘yung bawat moment sinusulit namin at ine-enjoy namin.”
[This season is so important because it's our last playing year. Every game, every moment, we make the most of and we enjoy.]
