President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has signed into law the creation of the Bataan High School for Sports in Bagac, Bataan.
In a report by GMA Sports, the school will be a secondary school dedicated to sports, quoting the Presidential Communications Office.
Republic Act 12239 or the Bataan School for Sports Act states that the school would be administered and supervised by the Department of Education (DepEd), in coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the National Academy of Sports (NAS).
The school will be operated in accordance with the policies and guidelines issued by the NAS System Board of Trustees, pursuant to Republic Act No. 11470 or the National Academy of Sports Law.
The Bataan High School for Sports is mandated to implement a general secondary education, as prescribed by Republic Act No. 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, to Bataan learners with considerable potential in sports.
The law states further that the school’s initial operation would be funded by the 2025 appropriation of the Schools Division Office of Bataan, and its continued operation will receive allocation from the annual national budget.
The law was signed by the President on August 29, 2025, the PCO said.
