The Chiefs put an end to their three-game misery with an important 78-71 win over the Golden Stags on Wednesday.

The victory improves their record to 4-6 as they keep the third spot in Group A of the #NCAA101 men’s basketball tournament.

Versatile forward Renzo Abiera and triple-double threat T-Mc Ongotan anchored most of Arellano's offensive schemes, combining for 45 points and accounting for half of the Chiefs’ total field goal attempts.

Abiera, a Dumaguete City native, dropped 13 of his 20 total markers in the second half laced with a highlight-laden fourth quarter where he sank two massive treys that extinguished San Sebastian’s late game rally.

The first of two crucial Abiera triples came at the 5-minute 41-second mark, right on the heels of the Golden Stags’ 10-2 scoring run which had trimmed the Chiefs’ lead to only two.

The high-flying sharpshooter followed it up two possessions later with a logo three that contained what would’ve been a shift of momentum and kept San Sebastian at bay.

Bulan, Sorsogon pride T-Mc Ongotan top-scored with a game-high 25 points on a 9-for-19 shooting clip, providing consistent spark on the offensive end from start to finish.

Ongotan also had six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block for an all-around performance for Coach Chico Manabat.

San Sebastian was once again led by stretch big Oneil Castor with 19 big points and a perfect 12-for-12 free throw clip, while Christian Ricio had 14 and 8 in the losing cause.

Star rookie and rebounding league-leader Jhuniel Dela Rama had limited production and was held to only 11 points and 6 boards.

San Sebastian stays as Group A’s fourth-placer following the loss with a 3-8 record.
