It is still all systems go for the upcoming 2026 Palarong Pambansa set to be held this May in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, per an official statement from the Palaro Secretariat. This debunks several claims online that the national games have been cancelled.
It clarified, however, that only the “in-person conduct” of the Organizational Planning and First Technical Conference was converted to a virtual event.
“There are several posts circulating online claiming that the 2026 Palarong Pambansa has been cancelled. These statements are FALSE,” the national secretariat said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
It emphasized that there have been no announcements related to the games’ cancellation, as preparations from both the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) – the primary organizing bodies behind this year’s Palaro – have been actively in motion.
“Preparations are well underway, and PGAS is almost ready to host the event.”
It made mention of concerns related to the ongoing energy crisis and its economic impact due to the conflict in the Middle East.
“Let’s help stop the spread of misinformation. Always verify before sharing. Together, let’s support our student-athletes, and the spirit of sportsmanship and the Palarong Pambansa!”
