Twenty regional teams composed of more than 13,000 delegates gathered in Agusan del Sur on Sunday, May 24, 2026, for the opening of the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.

Long lines of people formed outside the Datu Lipus Makapandong Gov. D.O. Plaza Sports Complex in Prosperidad town to witness the opening ceremonies of the country’s biggest gathering of young Filipino athletes.

This marks the first time the province is hosting the Palarong Pambansa.

Authorities have also implemented tight security measures at the sports complex.

Each regional contingent receives a warm welcome as they enter the sports complex for their salute presentation.

First Filipino Olympic gold medalist and weightlifting Olympian Hidilyn Diaz will lead the oath-taking of officiating officials.

Among the highlights being anticipated is the lighting of the Friendship Cauldron by selected athletes from Agusan del Sur.

The 20 teams will compete in the week-long Palarong Pambansa, including the two organizational teams – the National Academy for Sports and Philippine Schools Overseas.

Various sporting events will take place in playing venues across six towns and one city from May 26 to 30.

Various performers along with a spectacular fireworks display will also feature the grand opening in the evening.
