NCR and Region IV-A (CALABARZON) are still the two best delegations in Palarong Pambansa after topping the final and official overall medal tally standings of the recently concluded 66th edition of the national games for student-athletes, held in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31, 2026.
NCR collected a total of 232 medals (91 golds, 70 silvers, 71 bronzes), CALABARZON netted 165 (55 golds, 50 silvers, 60 bronzes).
Region XI (Davao Region), meanwhile, made history by placing in the top three for the first time in Palarong Pambansa history after edging an ultra-competitive four-way race for the third spot.
The Eagles hauled in 33 gold medals, along with 32 silvers and 35 bronzes; while fourth-placer Region VII (Central Visayas) finished with 32 golds, 30 silvers, and 44 bronzes.
Overall No. 5 Region VI (Western Visayas) narrowly fell short of a podium finish for the first time since 2005 after tallying 31 golds. Region XIII (Caraga) trailed precariously at no. 6 with 30 golds.
Region IX (Zamboanga Peninsula) is the biggest gainer from last year’s Palaro standings, jumping seven spots to finish in tenth place from being the no. 17 team in 2025 in Ilocos Norte.
The major leap was due to Zamboanga’s 14 more gold medals, capping their Palaro Tu AgSur run with 17 golds, 11 silvers, and 13 bronzes as compared to its 3-17-14 output last year.
The National Academy of Sports (NAS), a government-run sports development academy based in Tarlac, also saw a significant improvement in its medal loot.
NAS almost doubled its 6-2-6 performance last year with an 11-gold, 5-silver, and 12-bronze catch in Agusan del Sur.
