The local government of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur has urged the public to refrain from sharing false and unverified information regarding developments in the case of the late Ateneo basketball player Rene Clert "Bobet" Baterbonia.
With the consent of the Baterbonia family, the local government announced on Thursday, July 30, 2026, that all official updates regarding the case will be released only through the family’s authorized representatives to ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of misinformation.
The local government said the family also appealed to everyone, especially vloggers and content creators, to refrain from sharing statements or content that may create the impression that the family is soliciting or encouraging financial assistance.
The local government said any such activities are not authorized by the family and may be subject to verification and investigation.
The public is urged to act responsibly when sharing information.
At present, the local government is conducting an investigation into reports that financial assistance intended for the Baterbonia family was allegedly sent but was never received by them.
Meanwhile, the public is also urged to keep visits to Labnig Cemetery strictly for paying respects and visitation only.
Authorities said vlogging and other content creation activities are limited strictly in order to maintain peace and order, uphold respect for the site and the bereaved family, and prevent any untoward incidents.
